Today: The F1 Glamour

26 May

Boats, Girls, Legs up to the ears of the tallest of the drivers and some motor racing.

It must be the Monaco race!

Although the race is not without its controversies, Currently we have Pastor Maldonado with a 10 place grid drop for “loosing the car and accidentally driving into Sergio Perez” [ie, being a hot headed tit and driving like a moron] and we have Michael Schumacher, who after “Having Bruno Senna drive too slowly and cause a crash” [ie, not being aware of his surroundings, showing his age really] has a 5 place grid drop.

After taking pole initially for the race, this is a massive kick in the venires for the German, who up until this race, has had a piss poor return to the sport.

This promotes my personal favourite driver [he used to drive a green car, I was young ok?] Mark Webber to pole position. Great for my fantasy league as I have predicted him for the race win. Miracles do happen.

Felipe Massa has had a better time of it this weekend as well, making into the top 10 shootout of Q3 for the first time this season, is it enough to improve Ferrari’s no-tolerance approach to losing? Unlikely. However it does put the Brazilian’s confidence through the roof again, which has been lacking since his unfortunate accident in Hungary in 2009. I’ve personally missed it, he’s too much of a lovable cuddly bear to leave F1. He also took no shit from Lewis Hamilton, something which he will forever have my respect for.

There is something a fair bit odd about this year compared to last year. The top teams (McLaren, Ferrari and RedBull) haven’t dominated in the way that usually occurs, infact, it’s been so topsy turvey that nobody knows what’s going on, the Pirelli guys are just smiling and being smug in their chemistry labs!

McLaren seemed to have solved Jenson Buttons “lack of rear grip”, however that could just be because he was going so slowly compared to the rest, that he can’t tell whether he is going backwards or not -he starts 13th tomorrow. Lewis Hamilton had an all-round OK qualifying – he will start the race in 3rd tomorrow.

RedBull have had a tale of two halves again, however, unlike previous weeks where it has been Sebastian Vettel taking the limelight, it’s Mark Webber who will take the pole position grid slot, whilst Sebastian will start from 10th, after the team decided to save tyres.

Lotus, now here is a team who are improving, and are starting to light a fire under the top teams, they regularly do better than Ferrari, and are a clear leader of the mid-field teams… Meaning tomorrow’s race is going to be EPIC.

Today: 11 More Sleeps

20 May

This is a countdown post, after 11 sleeps of not seeing my man Charlie, I will never have to have a sleep without him again. I really can’t wait. So what is going to happen in those 11 days? well…. here we go…

  • I will go to the gym 7 times
  • I will run 21 miles
  • I will go to work 9 times
  • I will travel to Reading once
  • I will try on wedding dresses
  • 78 laps will be completed on race day at Monaco
  • I will buy one more bus pass
  • I will post to tumblr
  • Twitter won’t know what hit it
  • I will moan that my feet hurt
  • I will cry at some TV show
  • 2 episodes of the Apprentice will air
  • I will do over 400 squats
  • I will have done over 500 sit ups
  • I will have been paid
  • Charlie will have sat his last 2 exams
  • My calorie consumption will be lower than the average bear
  • More than likely my weight will have remained stagnant
  • There will be a vast amount of Star Wars: The Old Republic played.
  • 4 more blog posts will have been uploaded.

Phew, what a list. I miss him. More than people probably know, It’s worse at the beginning of the week and does ‘get better’ ie, easier to deal with. These will be the most painfully slow days of my life. But the outcome is forever, I know it’s only 11 days, and I know he is only 100 miles away, but it’s still not next to me, so I can bury my head into him and snooze.

I will run it out. I WILL. I will run the full distances. Even it means pausing my workouts to stretch, I will do it. I am determined to be productive in this area in these 11 days.

11. Days. To. Go.

Today: Running for Glory

14 May

So today I managed a 2 mile run.

Proud? I certainly am. And it was after a stressful day at work, so i’m doubly thrilled!

Today was the first day of my planned eating. I have had everything I write down except for peas (I made too much cabbage) and my apple, but I may have my apple in a minute as I can feel my tummy rumbling! I’m pretty happy with how it went, especially since I only had those icky milkshake meal things for brekkie this morning!! I thought I would be gagging for food.

I may have to have some cheese and biscuits after the apple, even though it’s not in my meal plan till Thursday, purely because Nan has bought Stilton!!!! OM NOM NOM NOM…

I weighed myself this morning as well… currently I am 11stone 10lbs. and a Size 14. Trying to get down to a size 10 (Think Scarlett Johansson) before next year should be fine. But I would much prefer it to happen before then!! Time will tell I suppose…

Tomorrow is a 3 mile run, So will see how that evil one goes. will hopefully still be well up for it! Suffering a bit at the moment, but that’s cuz I then did 3 miles on the bike, then 1mile on the CT. a full 3-2-1 training day (500 cal cardio burn)!! Maybe I should come up with a new regime… hhmmmmm..

Tomorrow’s lunch is pasta, tinned tomato sauce and some cheese, with the dinner being a chicken salad. Just going to get the chicken outta the freezer I thinks! I really am quite excited for this week, 4 runs then the weekend with my baaby 🙂 Bring it on people.

And as my new idol on twitter (@SpikesandHeels) says – be pretty on rest days.

(or just during the day at work)

Today: Out the Window.

13 May

No… not something literally out of the window. My food plan from a previous post did. It would have gone so well, but halfway through the week I got epically bored. And didn’t eat well AT ALL.

I also ended up going to Cardiff this weekend, which resulted in more bad eating 😦 Long story as to why I went to cardiff, the short version is me not being very good at Long distant relationships.

I’ve come up with a new approach to my diet. I’ve meal planned. every day. All except breakfast, which I will see how my milkshake goes on Monday before I decide what else to have for the rest of the week. 1800 calorie aim for each day, where one day a week I’m allowed to eat whatever I want. This is apparently good because when I come off the diet, I’ll be able to maintain the weight, otehrwise my body will hate the shock of more calories and I will get my tum back!

Since all my weight is between the bottom of my boobs and my knees, it looks like I have alot of cardio work to do!

It’s a nice running week this week, M/T/W/Th runs, then Fri off. I can’t run at the weekend because I just get freaked out running outside at the moment. I’m so conscious about road running! It’s ok when I go home to visit my parents because I run round a field. But in Cardiff it’s up and down a main road. With loose paving slabs… as my rolled ankle from the weekend will testify.

I haven’t discovered anywhere in Cheltenham yet, I could go exploring, but since my gym is on my route home, I just go there straight from work! Means I can do weights as well, I think when I get to running for 5 miles I will need to run outside. But that;s still quite a way off, as I get hit with cramp from about 1.5 miles in. I’m excited to make it to 2 miles non stop.

I’m also going to start up the sponsored diet thing again. I’ll start a new graph and I will keep you all updated. I’m determined to not only lose the final 15lbs, but raise the remaining £85 to get to my £100 target.

This is the start of the “I will be a size 10 bride” project. But that will be on my tumblr site more than here… (take a look! http://www.harriparf.tumblr.com)

Right. Off to bed. got a hefty Monday ahead of me! got a morning weigh in for the start of the new sponsored stretch!

Today: So that was awkward

12 May

So… my previous post alluded to us all awaiting to what would happen to Lewis Hamilton.

Seems the poor little racing driver has to start from the back of the grid, giving Williams-Renault their first pole position since 1997.

Yes i know Hulkenburg got pole in Interlagos in 2010.

People seem up in arms about it all, saying stuff like:

“If it wasn’t Lewis Hamilton it would only be a 5-place grid drop”

“This always happens to Lewis!”

“wa wa wa wa wa”

Notice how little I care, mainly because it isn’t always him. It is always just a bigger deal when it happens to a highly regarded racing driver.

ALSO. it wasn’t even LH who was at fault, it was his team. However how best do you punish a racing team? You pick on where they get there results. the driver….

Personally, I think the penalty is correct. The team didn’t follow the rules, even if it was an accident. He could have been disqualified from racing, so he definately didn’t get the worst possible outcome.

So, Mclaren fans, get over it. It’s not like he can’t race.

Today: An unexpected result

12 May

Watching Qualifying for the Formula One today, I was expecting a Redbull pole with Ferrari yet again under performing whilst only one of the Mercedes cars made an impact.

So… I was right… but totally wrong.

I say I’m right because in all intense and purposes, if these scenarios were reversed then I would be right.

Redbull didn’t get pole and in a strange event, Sebastian Vettel didn’t even try and be last to cross the line with the fastest lap. settling for a more conservative approach, a better result that my favourite driver however, Mark Webber, who falsely assumed his safety in Q2, and watched as his time was smashed and smashed again. Finally starting in P12.

Mclaren were a team of 2 halves, whilst Lewis Hamilton topped each of the qualifying sessions, Jenson Button had a fluke change of heart towards his car, suffering understeer through out. Something the FOM thought would be useful to mention in every session. Not. Pole for Lewis Hamilton, 0.5 seconds ahead of his nearest rival and 11th for Jenson Button who apparently had an understeer problem…

Ferrari were expected to just be on the track. Nobody expected anything, and Felipe Massa delivered that prediction, quite successfully by starting in 17th. Fernando Alonso seems to have received black magic from his home crowd and starts 3rd…

The rest of the field is quite predictable with 2 exceptions, Williams were again a story of 2 halves where Bruno Senna qualified 18 after encountering alot of traffic and spinning on his final flying lap, parking up in the gravel, Pastor Maldonado however parked his car on the front row with Lewis Hamilton. Good luck Pastor, if you do go backwards at the start please don’t do a Daniel Ricciardo.

Sauber hit it good as well with both cars in the top 10, showing good pace for the race!

i’m excited for the race, we will have to see why Lewis Hamilton had to stop on track, as if it is something like say… a gearbox change as the rumours around the track are saying, he won’t start on Pole! Maybe Maldonado won’t go backwards? Hopefully Mark Webber will just go forwards.

Now you’ll have to excuse me, I’m just watching the rest of GP2 (basically Formula One but without the manners), Sky really have opened up motorsport to the wider commmunity!

Today: The food plan

6 May
The current Diet Coke logo was adopted in 2007

Staple for an interesting day drink

It’s really really hard to diet when you are depending on someone else buying the food for the week.

I’m not depending, I mean, It’s my other halfs Nan, who lets me live with her, for free, won’t let me contribute to the food shopping either. She will let me tell her what I would like, however due to refrigeration/freezer space (She likes to be prepared for say… a Nuclear attack) I don’t ask for anything more than salad things.

I would like to say now, I’m not complaining.

It just means that my diet will revolve around what hasn’t expired in the fridge/freezer, and after a couple of close calls with food poisoning and one actual case which knocked me for six, I’m very picky about what I eat.

So I’m writing this to be a plan for my food. depending on what is in the fridge.

So on Monday, I will still be in Cardiff:

Brekkie: Tea, Bacon x 3, 1 x Chiabatta roll, butter (1 serving) 390 calories

Lunch: Fajitas x 2 chicken. – 190 calories per serving. Contains 1xOnion 2xPeppers 500g chicken, fajita mix, salsa.

glass of coke 105 calories

Then I return to Cheltenham,

So for tea, I was thinking                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           Can of diet coke, 3xfish fingers, 2x bread, 1 serving of butter. 399 calories.

Total for the day to then be: 1274 calories.

I’m planning on going to the gym tomorrow night so that I can do my run, I’ve missed my runs since thursday because I really messed my feet up. I couldnt even walk the next day so I decided it was for the best!

It’s another 3 mile day, So I will defo try to whack it out! gotta try and get it less than 38 mins this time.

The rest of the week will be very similar, owing to when I say what food I fancy that day, Nan will buy me a weeks supply…

Brekkie: Coffee, Sugarpuffs and milk – 170 calories [I have this every day, I’ve tried fruit but I just get hungry later on in the morning!]

Lunch: cous cous, 1/4 onion, celery, 1/2 can of tuna – 222 calories. I like it with the onion, It adds a nice kick to the flavour 🙂 [May sway cous cous for a half portion of pasta]

Snacks: Banana, special K bar – 158 calories. This may increase as I am going to the gym on Tu/Th/Fri

Dinner: Protein shake and bananna – 320 calories. Again, may go up as I may need a bit more to keep me going!

I’m in cheltenham at the weekend as well, which means I may have the protein shake for lunch on the saturday (It’s a roast at the in-laws on the sunday) Then something a bit more creative for dinner on saturday evening.

I also have found a magic special drink I use for running. I’ve read that cramping can be caused by lack of electrolytes including salt, So I make a strong Orange squash with just a pinch of salt in. It really works wonders, and I don’t get thirsty as much as to compared when I drink water on its own. which is a pretty massive win!!

I just hope this time when I run My right foot won’t lean inwards, or that I have to run with my left foot facing outward!! I’m compensating for something, but I can’t figure out why, I know I run pretty flat footed, and I’m conscious to make an effort to change that, but I’ve run before and I was fine, so I’m not 100% sure what’s going on.

My running days this week? Well as I’m not heading to Cardiff to allow my Charlie to prepare for exams, It’s M/Tu/Th/F/Sa. I may go to the gym on Wednesday anyway and do more toning and stretching exercises. Maybe look into strength and conditioning training, then Post what I decide to do here :p

I’ll keep you all updated anyhow. Just wanted to let you know I hadn’t just given up!!

Side note: I haven’t had a McDonalds in 130 days.

Today: Why won’t work’s willpower work

2 May
Nike+ iPod Modification Tutorial

Nike+ iPod Modification Tutorial (Photo credit: Mixmaster)

I have come to recently discover that having a bad day at work reflects on what happens at home. It’s all well and good “leaving work at the door” but it can be hard to let some things go.

We’ve recently hit a lull in work at work, which for me unfortunately means I have little to nothing to do, as I’ve yet to train up to do anything else.

I have a C# book now, and a C++ book to keep my thirst for knowledge up and running. But even today I was struggling to find any motivation (Motivation part 1) to even open the books.

I was awaiting confirmation of some work from another department (which took a week longer than they said) which finally got done at 2pm today, my motivation (Motivation part 2) to try was dead in the water.

I enjoy working hard, I enjoy doing my best, and when I can’t do that it’s like i’ve failed somehow.

So when the time ticked over to 4pm, I could leave. So I did. It was only when I left that i realised i had no motivation to got to the gym. I wanted to go home and eat crisps. LOTS. It’s only because people would see the blue bar on my Nike+ coach that I went for my run.

Far away from my goal of 33 mins for 3miles (just under 5km) I ran/walked it in 38mins 12seconds. Here is my Nike+ graph thingy..

3 miles

no points for seeing where i had to start walking.

I honestly feel like i’ve failed. And I think it stems from the lack of motivation I get from work. I get that I’m new but at some point I need to beable to find work for myself.

It’s a step in the right direction. I have another 8 or 9 3 mile runs to complete and hopefully I will get it down to the 33 mins. It also means my 2 mile time will improve as well… So I guess that’s a light at the end of the tunnel!

You all on twitter have helped alot, giving me advice and support, namely @kimifan @charliestyman and @_saki_chan! Thank you all so much.

Also… my friend @pooja_gohel signed up to twitter today. give her a follow, not sure if she has managed to turn e-mail notifications off yet so it would give me a good giggle at work to hear of the influx of followers

Next run is supposedly tomorrow, and is another 3 miler. However i have pretty intense arch pain in my right foot, so if that’s not good by tomorrow then the whole distance from mile 1 will be intervalled. Instead of running a full mile before intervalling.

Or if it hurts too much then I will walk. Then book an appointment with the doctor I think…. stupid Oversupination.

Today: Running through the pain.

1 May

Well I’ve got more of a smile on my face today. Last night not only did I do my best run, I also weighed myself.

…when I say my best run, I ran for the longest distance – 2.02 miles – at a time of 21 mins. And I only had to walk for less than a quarter of a mile because I got sweat in my eye… I forgot my towel you see!

Loss of 2lbs people! And I feel better in myself. My running stuff is starting to get loose and I think I look smaller.

A far cry from a size 10 UK, but I’m getting there.

I missed the run I was supposed to do on Sunday, which I was really really gutted about. Never thought I could or would miss the gym but I did! So I’m back to going everyday again this week. Maybe not a run today (yeah because that’ll happen) as I’m not scheduled one, but a longer bike ride and a more intense cross training session I think is in order.

Maybe even squats. I think I could do 100 of them or so…

So excited for the gym!!!

I have now set some new goals.

I have run 2 miles in under 22 mins, more than once! – Also for 15 mins non stop. #gome!

My new goal is to:

  1. run 5km (3.2miles) in 33 mins or less.
  2. run at 10kph for as long as I can
  3. run 25 miles in total before 23/05 (currently on 6.03miles)
The aim for the week is going to be:
Run 3 miles in 35 mins or less

I’m aware this is similar to point 1. but I have to build from somewhere!
