Today: Day 10, A Fizzing Face

23 Aug

Day 9! Organising my wardrobe was definitely tougher than I thought it would.

TIP: Do your washing first.

Half of my stuff was in the wash basket/washing machine so that stuff wasn’t taken into consideration at all when i was chucking stuff away.

The hardest thing for me, was SOCKS. I love my socks… so reducing it down to 14 (Excluding work out ones) was really tough, anything with a hole in was thrown, anything that i hardly wore was thrown, then it was my patterned ones and my nice ones… it was tough!

Back to the stuff that was washing/drying, I’m just going through it pile by pile. Checking my list of numbers and how many I have in my drawers. Then being brutally honest, Even if i like wearing it, If i have to place my hands over holes then it has to go 😦

I did however discover that I need another pair of jeans.. mine are soon to die!

Now Day 10 I found a face mask idea… two simple ingredients: Water and Baking Soda.

face

Two ingredients that I actually had! So I went for it…

It was pretty sore at first, but that’s because i didn’t wait for it to stop fizzing… So the chemical reaction continued on my face.

I’ve just come back from washing it off and I think it worked… My face feels smoother for sure! I’ve just slapped some moisturiser on as well, so it should be model like by the morning… hehe!

This pin a day board is coming along nicely. Full of random stuff! But hopefully by the end of it it should be 45 pins of random stuff I’ve tried.

Today: Day 4, ‘E’ is for English Tea Party

16 Aug

Yesterday’s reading was a welcome change to my usual bed time routine, making me go to bed just a bit earlier to wind down, I think I ended up with a better nights sleep!

Except for the building alarm going off at like 6am…. ugh… You win some you lose some I guess!

Today was date day, every two weeks me and the hubby take it in turns to do a date that has somethign to do with a letter of the alphabet. My turn this week, and I had ‘E’.

I decided to do English Tea Party type theme…. bit hard as the hubs isn’t a fan of tea! But we made scones, and had cream and strawberry Jam!

The full link to the Mary Berry Recipe is here [Ok not the link itself… but the pin!]

Pretty good If I do say so myself!

Now excuse me as I devour the rest of the clotted cream…. om nom nom…..

Today: Day 3, Mental Care

15 Aug

I’m stark raving bonkers.

Yep.

SO yesterday I did the body bum work out thing… it hurt and burned a bit! Felt pretty good though. I’m definitely taking those squats and lunges and adding it into a warm up routine!

Today, the hubby and I have been out for lunch with the family, so my day has been taken up socialising in the sunshine and eating lovely food with sweet company. Which means I don’t have much time to ‘do’ anything else.

Obviously I’m sat on my sofa playing some games and talking with friends and watching Saturday night television!! But I wanted to add a pin today that I could still do.

I’ve decided that today should be about mental wellbeing… Nothing drastic like Yoga in 16 awkward positions whilst breathing through your nose and humming, but something simple to get me away from it all!

So here it is:

keepcalm

Simple.

I’m going to go make a cup of tea now.

I have a book about the perils of running a friend lent me that I really haven’t finished yet that I should really aim to. So tonight I’m going to make a dent in it.

10:30 pm will be my ‘up to bed’ time. I’ve got to make sure I step away, get into my PJs and put some chill music on and read for a bit. Even just one chapter! God I miss reading…

I know It’s silly to say, but I won’t read books that are in the middle of a film or TV series. It’s like I’ve got to stick to one medium?

I’m still reading Lord of the Rings… THAT’S a hard book to get through, very detailed and good, but its very hard to get into properly.

In fact… here’s a list of books:

  • Lord of the Rings – reading, hard to finish
  • Body Book – Cameron Diaz autobiography. Easy reading, could finish in an afternoon
  • The Hunger Games (Trilogy) – Need to wait for the films to finish, then I will be all over these!
  • Sense and Sensibility – TRYING to read this, but the style is strange for me!
  • Pride and Prejudice – Can’t wait to start on this!
  • Little House (all the stories!) – I have to read these again.
  • Anne of Green Gables – same here, I have to read them again, to take the full story in as I just cant remember it properly
  • A Year of Losing the Dating Game – someone from school has written a book… I feel I should read it as it does sound hilarious!

Anyway… One day when I have a nice big bay window that I can sit in with the tv on and lots of pillows, I can read. Or in my big big garden.. A girl can dream?

Don’t forget to follow my board on Pinterest, and throw me a follow on twitter to: @harriparf

Today: Day 2, Changes Already – A Pin a Day

14 Aug

So yesterday was alright.

I didn’t run as an entire cold front dumped itself on Milton Keynes, and, after a couple of weekends a go when I ran 10k in the pouring rain. It didn’t appeal to me.

This made me realise.. I’m not motivated to run.

At this moment in time I dread every training run. My “go out and see how things are” runs are ok, because i literally just go and see how it is. But training runs with distances and pacing… well they are turning me into a bit of a nervous wreck.

So I’m pulling out of my half marathon at the end of September.

I started running to challenge myself and i ended up enjoying it. Now if i’m not enjoying it I don’t want to do it or finish any distance i’m on, or anything that happens on a run completely phases me, and i’m ruined. Then I feel like a failure.

Why continue to train for something you aren’t looking forward too?

When I was training for Paris, I was really looking forward to it. Yes I was scared, Yes I was nervous, Yes I didn’t think I would make it, but I believed I could, and I enjoyed pushing myself. That’s just not there this time.

I’ll get it back I’m sure! But right now It can’t be on the table.

So, I guess that means I can throw myself in my next annual goal of losing 10lbs (Half the issue with the Half was that it wasn’t really on my ‘plan’.. ).

CORRECT!

I really like this idea of “a pin a day” as well, something little to push me through the next few weeks.

My weight on my motivation board got to 186 pounds, which means to reach my goal i need to get to 176.

I just weighed in today and i’m back up to 191 pounds 😦

I can’t lose motivation again…

10lbs to go! That’s what I have to focus on… so I guess I have two goals, the realistic 191 – 181, and the ideal of getting it down to 176.

So lets hope my pin a day helps with it!

Today i’ve pinned the best butt workout. I’m gonna lay my mat out on my landing and have a good time of it 🙂

best butt

Yesterday I managed pretty much everything on my list, except the milkshake… but we ordered cookies so that’s still fun 🙂

Now today I’ve just gotta hope my knee doesnt die when I start this.

Talk Tomorrow!

Today: A Pin a Day

13 Aug

O dear lord

So I have been neglecting this because reently I have become a little (alot) embaressed at any progress I made.

My Q2 Goal was to run a sub 35min 5km.

I smashed it :p Yeah I got a 33:33 at Buckingham Parkrun. It was Glorious!

Then we had waffles.

Im almost at the end of my Q3 goal, though, technically i guess i have until the end of September? Anyway, lose 10lbs.

It’s hard.

I’m trying to find one thing to focus on to improve, and I am really REALLY struggling.

So, I need a new plan for the remaining 6.5 weeks:

  1. I know I have a half marathon to run on September 27th, which is right at the end, so I can incorporate any training for that into this new plan.
  2.  I run my long runs on Sundays, my short runs on Tuesdays, and any ‘technical’ runs (sprints/tempo/hills) on Thursday. So my week kinda goes Tu – 2-3 miles, Th-         4-6 miles, Sun 6 +
  3. (At least I am now at a point where I’m not scared to just hop out and run 6 miles!)
  4. I love Pinterest. Far too much

So my new plan:

6.5 weeks = 6.5*7 = 45.5 days, So for ease, I’ll say 45 days.

I’ll pick 45 pins and i have to do one a day. It can be a workout, or some crafty thing, or weird breathing exercises… basically it has to be an activity.

Today, I’m running 4-6 miles (depending on how hard it is raining), then i have to do something… hmmmm

I’m searching across the ‘Everything’ Category:Everything

I guess I could do a beauty thing or a house cleaning thing?

Ah! Found a simple one, It’s a list of 10 things (last one is pray… i’ve cut it off as that’s not me)

atmosphereSo i could do this!

  • I would declutter the kitchen.
  • Put Music from my phone on
  • Light a scented candle (I still have one I think!)
  • Skip the brownies and make a milkshake
  • I have a beautiful Bouquette of flowers to arrange and find a place for
  • The Hubby’s gonna get a big grin from me!
  • I’ll be motivating myself by running… nothing is more encouraging than: “I’m running home now…”
  • Hugs are a rule whenever someone comes in the house. Snuggling and holding tight!
  • Ahhh Games… That will be played! And the Great Brittish Bakeoff from yesterday. Shouldn’t take more than an hour?
  • I’d shower after this and the run so i can play games and watch TV with a job done.

So that’s my idea. A pin a day and a blog a day… 45 days.

I best set the Commit reminder on my phone to pick a pin to do.

I’ve set a new board up: A Pin a Day, come follow if you like!

Till tomorrow!!

Today: Next Mountain To Climb

18 Mar

Don’t get excited, I’m not actually climbing a MOUNTAIN, just I see my next goal as one.

In January I set myself 4 goals as my new years resolution:

  1. Run the Paris Half Marathon (Jan – March)
  2. Run a sub 35min 5 km (Apr – Jun)
  3. Lose 10lbs (Jul – Sept)
  4. Run a sub 33min 5 km (Oct – Dec)

I decided to split it into little goals instead of the usual “I’m going to be healthy” blah blah you usually do, as I was fed up of giving up.

Goal 1 has been achieved and recorded in Today: I Did That, a truly emotional experience and I’m still thriving from the buzz from it!

Goal two is well underway and it isn’t even April yet, I knew I would PB at the next parkrun after the half marathon as I would still have all my strength and motivation from the 5 days before. And I did, Running Mumma coached me to a PB 5km of 36 mins exactly (even after getting up early for the grand prix). Meaning for my next goal, I have to shave a minute off that!

If you haven’t been to Milton Keynes parkrun before, you’re in for an experience. There is an infamous section known as the zig-zags, which is about 2- 3mins of uphill zig-zagging steep hill at about 2km. It hurts! But I know that’s where I’m going to make my best time gain, I slow right down when I get to the top, I think I could shave about 20 seconds off that hill!

In addition to this goal, I’m also trying to consciously make healthier lifestyle choices. I’m going good with my lunches and I have three bits of fruit on postits with times on when I should be eating them. Slow going, I’m trying not to go hungry, whilst also maintaining some kind of control.

Gym going has also picked up! Two club runs, 2 strength sessions and two alternative cardio’s a week (then parkrun on a Saturday), means I’m a busy bee, but I’m also feeling better for it, a lot calmer and just better rounded. It’s amazing what a bit of endorphin’s can do for you!

I haven’t felt this motivated in a very long time, and I really hope it stays with me.

Today: Semi-marathon de Paris

11 Jan

Last year in November I signed up to the half marathon in Paris.

Not one for taking and easy option, really!

Why Paris? Well I’ve been there twice for work, I’ve admired document stir and pictures of the city, I’ve seen horrible stories about Paris and the way that it’s extremely dirty and segregated. So I thought I would see for myself!

Why a half marathon? Once my beginners group ended I’ve been a bit lost for motivation, I didn’t know what to do, and I’ve been really enjoying running and the community, that I thought why not go further?

I did a 10k at the end of November – Movember, in Milton Keynes, and it truly was horrible. Wet, cold, windy, hill swamped two lap course. I was 5th from last and genuinely hated every second of it. Then I finished. I had a friend surprise me as I crossed the rain soaked miserably grey finish line and I could have cried. Crying due a mixture of pain, cold, and joy that I had finished.

My hatred of running was soon over, and I just couldn’t wait to do another. It was like I had identified everything that had gone wrong and I wanted to fix it for the next thing. Thankfully I’d signed up for Paris!

13.1 miles isn’t much further than 6, is it?

Flash forward to the new year and I got struck with the crappy coughing headache, fatigued virus that’s been making the rounds. 3 weeks I’ve been out with it, no running had been done till today!

Only 8/9 weeks till the half marathon.. No biggie?

I know that if I can train up to 10 miles I will finish the race. I mean, the final 3 is just a park run right? And if I can do that final push in 40 mins I will be happy!

Today I managed to run in the gym, 6km running to songs. Two songs running and one song walking, just to ease back in, that took an hour. The advantage to running in the gym is that I got to watch the news whilst running, which just so happened to be on the March through Paris in remembrance and solidarity with Charlie Hebdo, and it was a big motivation.

I have the freedom to run where I want, what would I do if someone tried to take that away? Someone tried to scare me away from it? Much like Boston and the reaction to that terrible attack I would run. I would show defiance and strength in that I was born with the strength to run, the strength to enter these races, to run for a charity, to run for myself.

It was motivating. It kept me going from my ” 20mins little intervals” to a full hour seeing how far I could go.

Now I feel I can say: #JeSuisCharlie

I’m still nervous about running this half, especially as I will probably not have a trailing couple of weeks of distance, and I will have to run at the peak. But I will run, I will go. Why should I let a cough stop me? Why I should I let my worry stand in the way of a truly AWESOME feeling?

I will be spending 4 days in Paris, exploring and taking everything in. And I will not be frightened or intimidated.

I will be a runner.

Today: The wedding skincare

5 Jun

Hello!

Well I’ve suddenly got the wedding prep panic with just over 60 days to go (Ah!)

For the past few days I have been religiously sticking to a facial plan, to try and keep breakouts down, and make my skin as clear and pretty as I can make it!

June2013 282

Here are my tools of the trade as such, the full shabang! I don’t use everything once a day, but I use some twice a day.

Here is my routine:

Step one

June2013 283

This is my face wash (not scrub) and a scrubbing pad, step one! Ive never had an experience with a scrub that didn’t end in something going in my eye or me using half the bottle to feel clean, so the face wash and the scrubbing pad allows me to be as gentle or rough as I like, depending on if I’m wearing makeup or not. Once I’ve scrubbed the day of my face, I use a flannel to clean off the soap, none of this splashing face stuff! Luke warm water, and wipe off. Means I don’t miss anything.

Step two

June2013 284

Step two is the face mask. Not to be done everyday, but once a week. I love this No.7 mask! Simple and warming, I put about half a brazil but size blob, and rub in from the nose out, round the eyes, forehead and t zone, before doing cheeks and chin. Then again with the flannel and warm water and wipe off. Skin feels soft afterwards. I would avoid using it if you have any broken skin, as it can cause irritation.

Step three

June2013 285

Step three is the seaweed cleanser from the body shop. I use this to cool my face after the scrub and the face mask, I put a pea size amount on a cotton pad and work from the nose round the eyes, t zone, cheeks and chin. I will brush lightly round the eyes to take the flaky bits of eye make up and dust off. This is a very gentle clean and I would recommend if you are feeling a bit flustered and hit after being in the sun!

Step four

June2013 286

Step four is the camomile eye make up remover. Less is more with this product from the body shop, a couple of drops on a cotton pad and ensure you clean up and down the lashes. Works gently and well. Key purchase in my book!

Step five

June2013 287

Step five is the good old Clearasil deep cleansing toner. Gets all the nitty gritty dirt out, try not to go over the eyes as it stings a bit! Make sure you follow just below the jaw line as well and a sweep over and behind the ears wouldn’t go amiss as well! Only about 3 drops needed on a cotton pad again. A little goes a long way.

Step six

June2013 288

Step six, and the final one is the moisturiser, I used to be a garnier girl until I found this! Feels a bit thick to go on at first but the after effect is really really nice. Simple replenishing rich moisturiser. A good investment!

I tend to use the toner when I wake up as well, especially when it’s hot! I will only use a tiny bit of moisturiser in the morning as well, if I’m only wearing mascara anyway. If I decide on a full face of makeup I use the body shop primer. But the makeup will be for another blog post 🙂

In regards to showers, I will do my routine, except the moisturising. I have an old face scrub (boo), seaweed from the body shop, that I use to wash any shampoo and stuff off my face that may have got there. Just to try and stop my skin from drying out.

My skin feels amazing right now and I’m sure I will update you if I discover any other stages. But out of all the prep that’s going on, it’s nice to have a bit of routine to go on, which, when it comes to wedding nerves, can be very reassuring!

Today: What a Day

10 Jan

So today, not only have I gone to work and got quite a bit done, I have phonecalls with potential photographers!

We currently have two, but will have to look on price. We have a quote from our flowers provider which is alot less than what we were expecting!

I also got a quote on a potential wedding car as well. Though I need to call them up tomorrow about that….

My running plan to go 222 miles in a year is underway, week one of the plan and I am 2.5 miles up. It’s also week 2 of my diet, and i’m 2lbs down on week one weigh in 🙂

So, the end result of the past couple of days is a positive one, and to brighten my day up more, the days are counting down till the first F1 test!

Today: 11 days without Citalopram

12 Sep

Now you may remember I have previously posted about my issues with anxiety and the tablets that I have been slowly coming off for the past six weeks.

A week ago last Saturday I couldn’t face taking a tablet. So I didn’t, I did this everyday, and have made it everyday for 11 days.

I’m having random twitches but apart from that, I’m coming off them well. My head feels a bit clearer and I think I’m getting to a more ‘normal’ place. At least if you ignore my loss of appetite and my even more intolerant personality.

I’m just less patient at the moment. But after all the panic attacks, previous withdrawals and going back on my tablets, these symptoms are the best.

The worst I’ve had? The onset of panic attacks, lower limb weakness and severe sickness.

I’m making it through the other side thankfully, and this time I plan on staying there.
