Today: Running through the pain.

1 May

Well I’ve got more of a smile on my face today. Last night not only did I do my best run, I also weighed myself.

…when I say my best run, I ran for the longest distance – 2.02 miles – at a time of 21 mins. And I only had to walk for less than a quarter of a mile because I got sweat in my eye… I forgot my towel you see!

Loss of 2lbs people! And I feel better in myself. My running stuff is starting to get loose and I think I look smaller.

A far cry from a size 10 UK, but I’m getting there.

I missed the run I was supposed to do on Sunday, which I was really really gutted about. Never thought I could or would miss the gym but I did! So I’m back to going everyday again this week. Maybe not a run today (yeah because that’ll happen) as I’m not scheduled one, but a longer bike ride and a more intense cross training session I think is in order.

Maybe even squats. I think I could do 100 of them or so…

So excited for the gym!!!

I have now set some new goals.

I have run 2 miles in under 22 mins, more than once! – Also for 15 mins non stop. #gome!

My new goal is to:

  1. run 5km (3.2miles) in 33 mins or less.
  2. run at 10kph for as long as I can
  3. run 25 miles in total before 23/05 (currently on 6.03miles)
The aim for the week is going to be:
Run 3 miles in 35 mins or less

I’m aware this is similar to point 1. but I have to build from somewhere!

No points for guessing what I’m going to blog about today!

Those of you who follow me on twitter will have noticed automatically generated tweets from Nike+ with some pathetic graph with what seems to be a horribly uneven run.

Again, no points as to who they belong to.

I’ve been doing interval training for a little while and had got to the point where I could run for half the time i allotted myself and walk the rest, so I decided to get on the distance goal. 5km.

However since I am working in miles as my units, it’s actually 5 miles.

I am now on week 3, a week where I am running 2 miles on the allotted days. It’s a bit annoying that I have missed at least one run per week, but they are mainly at the weekends when I’m not near a gym and I’m too scared to let people see me in my lycra!

I kind of like it. It gives me goals and indicates where I have missed runs, which makes me feel bad. And I like the lovely lady who tells me when I’m half way there and only have 400m to go…

I’m determined to run a full 2miles before my first every attempt at the 3 mile run on Sunday (Which I will try… on the streets of Cardiff!), you see I have been running half distance at least, before intervalling the last half distance. I have been running it more, but I’ve recently had issues with cramp in my shin which locks my foot into place, meaning I can’t physically walk.

So here is an official declaration of my aim for the week regarding my run:

I will run 2 miles in under 22 mins.

I’m not going to say I won’t interval. Because when it comes to me running 4 miles I will have to run 2 miles first to stick to my “Run half Interval half” rule.

I promise by the end of this 12 week program I will run the full 5 miles. I’ll even start working towards the 10km(mile) one. Haven’t really looked at that coaching program yet but I’m sure it’s scary!

I used to really hate running. But I’m enjoying it now, I’ve even made playlists depending on what distance I’m going to be doing! Today, since I have to run 2 miles, It’s my workout-2 playlist. Yeah go on then, I’ll tell you what songs they are, but no making fun!

  1. Pixie LottAll About Tonight
  2. One DirectionWhat Makes You Beautiful
  3. Taylor Swift – Long Live
  4. Taylor Swift – Enchanted
  5. Phil CollinsTake Me Down
  6. Glee Cast – Me Against the Music

Yep, only 6 songs but it lasts 24 mins. So I know that when Phil Collins comes on I’m nearly done! I’ve gone for the beats in the music and how the lyrics make me feel rather than pure taste. I need the inspiration to carry on at the moment, but when running gets easier I’m hoping that I will beable to listen to anything and just keep on running…

I’ve also started up on my sponsored diet again. I know It’s been a while and it’s not like I’ve been mis-behaving or anything. I’ve managed to maintain my weight so I’ve kicked the healthy eating into a higher gear to get my metabolism working again. I am determined to lose all 30lbs I said. I also want to get fitter and healthier.

Shall I put down some new goals? I don’t think I should put a time constraint on it because that is REALLY demotivational if you start to fall behind. I’m not strong enough mentally to pick myself up again really! Ok here goes…

  1. Lose the final 15lbs to reach the 30lb target
  2. Run a mile in 9mins or less
  3. Run for 30 mins without tiring
  4. Boobs stick out more than the tum….without sucking in!
  5. Get to small for my trousers

I think they are pretty good don’t you think? I should also add here about blogging more. But you will get at least 1 blog a week from me, every Monday after 7pm (UK time) which is my new weigh in time. Infact you’ll get some more when it comes to F1 weekends. Because I’m sure I’ll have more opinions to express and get frustrated about over the remaining races!

Any advice or motivational talk then please do comment. Or follow me on twitter @harriparf. Just be aware I like tweeting about #worklife #buslife foursquare and chatting about #F1. And science. And anything really…

Today: The weeks go by..

25 Mar

It has been an epic while since I have blogged, So i’ve decided to do a big blog to cover a few things. They are:

  1. The Sponsored diet

  2. My new job

  3. Plans for the next few months

  4. Recent activities

1. The Sponsored diet.

I had a massive relapse, I gained 5 lbs and I was embarrassed to report it, so I didn’t. So i’m swallowing my pride and I’m saying it. I’ve had a gain. I relapsed back to 11stone and 10 lbs, instead of 11 stone 5 lbs.

That is what I was when I last weighed in (a week ago) and I have been going to the gym alot and been lowering my calorie intake slowly, meaning I don’t need a very big lunch, even if I go to the gym after work!

I also tried a spin-class, which is torture on a bike, I thought I was doing ok, till I pretty much fell into another biker at the end of the session… bad times…

I got new running shoes! They have the Nike plus in them so running should be easier to track! I have only managed to use them once since getting them on Wednesday (It’s now Sunday) but I could tell they would stop me getting shin splits and that I would run properly instead of rolling my ankles inwards. My ankles hurt in a different place now, but it’s more of them getting used to the new position than shoving my metatarsals into my shin bone

So thank you everyone who has sponsored me. I have not stopped, my new shoes have given me the drive to carry on, and the fact that I am smaller size now (I can get into a size 10 jersey dress! – but really i’m a 12-14 thanks to my bum) means I am more motivated than ever!

2. My New Job

I analyse data about data, and manage how that data is produced and shown… and It’s even for a company people have heard of! I’m pretty chuffed and if they keep me after my 3 month probation I’ll be in my first ever Permanent position! Which isn’t just a win… it’s an #epicwin.

3. Plans for the next few months

Charlie and I are getting a flat!!! We’re going to be looking at them when he is on Easter break, and we’ll have a deposit down and one picked by the end hopefully!! Then we get to plough forward with the wedding plans, savings, his PGCE and me improving more at work.

I’ve got a week long holiday coming up in Woolercomb in August to look forward to as well. Can’t wait 🙂

4. Recent activities

I’ve had rough times to be honest, I fell off the diet bandwagon (not majorly, but enough to see a difference), and i’ve had to start counting down the days till Charlie and I move into a flat to give me something short term to look forward to.

I’ve also had good times come from rough times, I had some bad false comments made about me this week, but it bought out the good in people, standing up for me backing me up and making me feel like I’m respected in some way. Which is fantastic! The comments can never be removed, but the respect will also always be there – so a big thanks from me here.

I’m off to see Michael Mcintyre on Monday, and shopping for my ball dress (next friday) during the day, which means i’m with Charlie for a couple of days longer! Then it’s Easter break… and the flat hunting!!

I promise I will have more blogs to read over the coming weeks. If you want more then follow me on twitter! @harriparf.

(I also promise there will be some F1 stuff again on here soon… Mark Webber [om nom nom] is doing well! WOOP WOOP!)
